Proposed constitutional amendment 5, on the ballot November 3rd, would create a major new tax loophole for major corporations.
It would allow industrial manufacturers, overwhelmingly petrochemical companies, to negotiate what they pay in property taxes, and whether they pay them at all.
No jobs would have to be created under Amendment 5. "Contracts" could be of unlimited duration.
Creating this new tax loophole would take funds away from public schools and other local services and would shift the tax burden to homeowners, renters and small businesses.
BUT HERE'S THE ISSUE ...
Amendment 5's ballot language was drafted intentionally to confuse voters.
Together Louisiana, therefore, is launching a statewide citizen education campaign to inform voters about the costs and consequences of Amendment 5.
The campaign launches on Monday, October 5th at 6:30pm over Zoom, with Special Guest General Russel Honoré.
